The fort has two of the remaining mortars of their type in America.

Hosts War between the States (Civil War) World War II re-enactments nearly every year.

Strategic position for Teddy Roosevelt,  and the Rough Riders during the Spanish American War.  The area was first surveyed for the United States by Robert E Lee.
